Response to Intervention (RtI)

Response to Intervention

Response to Intervention (RtI) is also sometimes referred to as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).  RtI is an on-going process that is designed to match interventions and high-quality instruction to student needs. Students in the RtI process have their progress monitored frequently to ensure that the intervention and instruction are meeting their needs.

A teacher brings their concern about a student to the problem-solving team.  The Problem-Solving team meets to create an intervention plan that will allow the student to see success in their learning and/or behavior.  The team sets up a future meeting to review the progress monitoring data of the student and determine if the intervention is working to “close the gap”.  Several different interventions may be attempted before determining which works best for the student.  If after several interventions have been attempted with fidelity and integrity by the administering staff member and significant gains are not made by the student, a recommendation to move into the Special Education Entitlement process may be made.
