a WebQuest for 2nd Graders

Introduction

One sunny Sunday, the caterpillar was hatched out of a tiny egg. He was very hungry. The story tells of the hungry little caterpillar's progress through an amazing variety and quantity of foods. Full at last, the caterpillar makes a cocoon around himself and goes to sleep. He wakes up a few weeks later to discover he is now a butterfly!

It will be your quest to learn the days of the week and to discover how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly.

 

The Task

After reading the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, work with your partner to discover the following:

The Process

Follow these steps to complete your webquest:

  1. Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar with your partner.

  2. Make one chart like the one below and write what the hungry caterpillar ate throughout the week.

3. Visit the main character page by clicking on this caterpillar Print out one worksheet page and complete with your partner.

4. Now you need to research caterpillars. Click wpe3.jpg (2304 bytes). Read the page with your partner and write 3 facts about caterpillars in sentences.

 

5. Create an 8 page flip book. On the top of the page draw what you ate that day. On the bottom page write in a complete sentence what the food you ate was. It will take you 8 days to complete this activity at home.

6. Great job!! Your quest is almost over.
