Research Information Clues Conclusion

Your class has been selected, along with many others to participate in the creation of a quilt. This quilt is going to be a gift for a very mysterious but famous person. The identity of the person who will receive the gift has not been revealed to us. We do know they have a great interest in art.

The Assignment (should you choose to accept it):

To create and design quilt blocks. These blocks, if accepted by the selection committee, will be incorporated into a quilt made up of various blocks submitted by children worldwide.

Task

At the end of this assignment you will have designed and created two 18" quilt blocks. You will receive eight 9x9" squares to use in the construction of your blocks. These blocks will reflect the knowledge you have acquired while researching the topics that interest the mystery person. You will be divided into teams of four.

Individual assignments:

Each individual will be responsible for designing two of the eight squares. These designs should reflect the information you have gathered about each artist's work or life. You are not allowed to use any pictures of the artist's work but you can do your own interpretation of their style.

Each individual is required to turn in a 1-2 page paper explaining the significance of each of the squares you design. This paper should reflect your knowledge of the artist or artists you choose as inspiration for your design.

Writing this paper will allow you to explain your choices of colors, shapes etc., you used in your design. It will allow you to show that your design has been well thought out and planned.

Group assignments:

As a group design and present a 20-30 minute presentation explaining the following things: ( your presentation can be done in any media you like but I suggest using PowerPoint. It will not affect your grade what medium you choose as long as the information expresses the group's creativity in a clear and organized manner.)

  1. What is the connection between the four 9"x 9" squares that make up each 18" quilt block?

  2. How are the two 18" blocks related to each other?

  3. Each individual should explain the meaning of the squares they designed.

  4. Discuss the process your grouped used to create the 18" squares. How did you coordinate colors, designs etc.

  5. Tell us about any difficulties your group faced while working on this assignment and how were these obstacles overcome?

  6. Tell us about your experience in the role play and how did the role play help or hinder your project

At the end of your group presentation: The individual explanation paper, the two 18" quilt blocks and a copy of your group presentation should be turned in.
