Introduction

Come along and let's travel back in time to Ancient Rome around 500 B.C. Image no television, no radio, and a completely different way of living. After you have adjusted to this way of life, you still have one major adjustment to achieve - the numbering system. Let's see if we can master this Roman numeral system!



The Task

In order to be successful with the Roman numeral system, you will need to step by step explore the following websites and complete the assignments in the websites.

The Process

You will work with a team of two to three students to complete this project. Five class periods will be alloted to work on this project.

  1. First you'll be assigned to a team of two to three students.
  2. Next you will use the web sites listed as resources and make a chart comparing Roman numerals and Arabic numbers.
  3. After your team has made the chart, you will complete the activities in the following websites and hand in the solutions.

Evaluation

When you think that you have mastered the Roman numeral system, each team member should individually go to the following web site and take the quiz on this web site.

Conclusion

You have now mastered the Roman Numeral system. Think about how your daily life would be different if this system was used. What would your calculator look like, what would be your telephone number, and how would the keyboard on the computer look?
