About Manteno Middle School

Manteno Middle School serves 681 students in grades 5-8. A normal school day is from 8:05 am - 2:55 pm. Originally built in 1954, the school has undergone numerous renovations, including an 18-classroom addition and a complete replacement of major HVAC systems in 2007.

Students in 5th grade follow a traditional self-contained classroom model, with specialized instruction in general music, beginning band, art, and physical education. Students in 6th. 7th, and 8th grades follow a unique middle school scheduling model called "Inter-Disciplinary Flex Block". A related arts block includes instruction in computers, writing, art, fitness, health, and physical education. Extra-curricular activities include softball, baseball, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, cheerleading, show choir, student council, scholastic bowl, math team, spelling team, chess club, literary club, technology club, and speech team.
